Healthy thoughts, please?

Here I sit, in front of my computer at 6 a.m. on a Saturday, because I am so congested I can't sleep. Yep, I got Jody and Ava's cold. :(

I'm drinking a virgin hot toddy (honey, lemon and hot water), hoping it will help with my sore throat and let me breathe a little more easily so I can catch some more winks. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz.

I had a feeling I might catch this cold from the rest of the fam', but, for obvious reasons, I was really hoping it would pass me by this one time. So now my desires regarding this birth have shifted. Instead of wanting the lil guy to come out ASAP, I'm hoping he will stay in just until mommy feels a little bit better, rested and healthy enough to have a good labor and birth. I feel confident it will all work out as it should. It's just this in-between sickliness and waiting part that puts a damper on the excitement of what's to come.

In the meantime, I'm getting lots of Vitamin C - eating Clementine oranges (love those tiny, li'l things), drinking Emergen-C, making strawberry/OJ/yogurt smoothies - drinking lots of tea, and trying to stay rested. Other suggestions, as well as healthy thoughts, vibes, prayers welcome. Thanks, all. :) I'm off to try that sleepin' thing again.

Oh that's so awful Amy, I'm sorry! I do hope baby boy waits until you feel better. Drink lots of warm drinks (freshly brewed ginger is good, various teas, echinachea, etc), continue taking lots of vitamin C, and stay away from ALL sugar and dairy and processed flours - they all cause tons of congestion and if you avoid them completely you will boost your immune system and might recover very quickly. Wishing you good health soon!

P.S. On the plus side baby boy is probably getting immunity from this cold going about before he even enters the real world so that is great and you don't have to worry about him getting sick. Also if you're hoping he stays put, he probably will!

Advice?? Hmmm.... keep your legs crossed? lol j/k

Hoping you get well and rested up before lil guy decides to make his entrance.

We've all got this nasty cold too. Of course it doesn't help that I run a daycare. I think I've had this about 4 times in the last 3 months. UGH!

Get well soon!!

Thinking of you and I hope you feel better soon. Get as much rest as you possibly can get away with! You'll need your energy whether or not you're sick. Here's hoping baby boy hangs out awhile longer!

Thank you all for the well wishes and suggestions. I'm doing a little bit better today. I've been thankful that this hit over the weekend so that Jody has been able to keep Ava occupied while I got some rest.

After talking to my midwife, I'm taking a cold remedy called "Cold Snap" which "consists of 20 herbs that employ Chinese herbology to restore your 'righteous chi.'" I'm also still getting lots of vitamin C and drinking echinacea tea and putting lots of honey in my teas.

Just a heads-up though to Isil (and any pregnant mamas), I read that large amounts of garlic can cause thinning of the blood and contractions, so even though it's a good cold remedy normally, it's probably not good to do while pregnant.

I'll keep y'all posted...

it's a good thing i'm not pregnant because i eat garlic in EVERYTHING. i would wear it as perfume if i could. as far as i'm concerned, the more garlicky the house smells, the better. i wouldn't last two weeks as a pregnant woman.

caroline - from what i understand, it's fine for a pregnant woman to eat garlic as they normally would in varied recipes, etc. it's when they start eating cloves upon cloves in large quantities (as you would if trying to treat a cold) that it could cause issues.

Glad the chicken noodle soup was tasty, I think its my husband and kids favorite around here, especially when they are not feeling good!

Sending healthy thoughts your way! I can't imagine how icky labor would be with a cold. Well, I can't imagine labor anyway, but with a cold.... ugh. Get better quick, lady!

Are you feeling any better? Any more ideas of when baby boy might come?, has the midwife checked you for dilation yet?
