Life is good

My husband installed some shelves for me in our office this weekend so I can get my photography stuff organized, my little girl is currently napping peacefully, I have a pot of yummy vegetarian chili simmering on the stove, and the temperature here in CO reached 70 degrees today. Life is good. :)

I've got some things to write about in the near future but I'm waiting until I have some more time and more information before I do it.

In the meantime, I have to say we had a nice weekend around here. I got my shelves put up that I wanted (and didn't even have to beg for them). Jody, Ava and I went to a park on Sunday for a mock photoshoot so I could get in some more practice with my new lens. My photos weren't spectacular, but I am happy with some of them, and, as always seems to happen when I go out for a shoot, I learned a lot. :)
Here are a few (cuz I always gotta share):

We had friends over for dinner and played a bit of Balderdash last night. It was a lot of fun. I'd never played Balderdash before, though I've heard a lot about it. I wish we would've had more time to play, since it seems like we were just really getting into it when they had to leave (it was nearly 11 p.m.), so we'll have to try it again another time.

Tomorrow Ava and I are going to a welcoming party for a friend's new baby boy. :) I'm excited to meet the little guy. On Sunday I'll be doing a newborn photoshoot of him and their family and I'm really looking forward to that.

I'm slowly but surely getting my stuff together for this photography business. Jody keeps encouraging me to delve in and really get going on it, but I know my comfort level with my technical skills better than he does and I'm not to that point just yet. I hope to be able to get serious about it this spring and summer, but I'm realizing I'm going to need some outside help with Ava - perhaps a mommy's helper to spend some time playing with her while I work during the week.

That's about all for now. Time to go enjoy some of that chili. :)

the pictures look great!

I was really surprised at the weather today, it was SO nice, was perfect for being outside, we did boring yard work, heh.

Rowan - Thank you. :)
I appreciate your advice and take it in the spirit it is meant. I don't know if I've mentioned it much on my blog, but I have been doing photoshoots with people other than just Ava and Jody. Granted there have not been a lot, and they have all been with friends, but I do feel like that has been giving me experience working with others outside my own family (and comfort zone). I'm actually planning on offering portfolio building sessions (for discounted rates) to a few of the parenting groups I belong to locally so that I can build my experience and bulk up my portfolio. I figure once I have a few of those under my belt, I will feel more confident with charging full price.
I know there will always be excuses and I will never feel like I'm fully ready, but I know I have to jump in sooner or later.
Thanks for your encouragement. :)

Dawn - Thanks! I loved the weather today too. Too bad we didn't get out much other than to Hobby Lobby and the grocery store. Tomorrow's supposed to be another beauty. :)

I know what you mean about taking the great leap in your career. And it takes not only courage, but organization to care for your child. I know I'm going to be in that position in a few months when I start real estate appraisal school. I'm waiting til Aidan is at least weaned before I begin my studies.

You SHOULD feel confident about your photos, they are beautiful!!! And even if you aren't confident, PRETEND that you are and everyone will think you know exactly what you're doing. :) :)

I'm dying to know what you have planned to tell us. Whenever somebody says, "I have somthing to write about in the near future, but have to wait," of course I want to know that minute what it is! :)

Amy - Congrats on the upcoming venture for you! I hope it goes well.
Thanks about my photos. I've heard that too - that even if I don't feel the most confident, I should act it and nobody will be the wiser. ;)

Heather - It was another nice day here today too. Where do you live? I forget. Hope you don't have to wait too much longer for the warmer temps. Thanks for your comments and good wishes about the biz.

Thanks, Rowan. I'm bummed we don't live closer too. I would love to photograph your girls! :)
